Oven BBQ Brisket

Sliced BBQ Brisket

Sliced BBQ Brisket

If like me you are not a pit master but you love BBQ brisket, then I think you’ll like this recipe. I’ve been making this for over 28 years and it’s been a tried and true dish for graduation open houses and other family celebrations. I like to make it ahead and let it cool so that it slices easily for sandwiches.

BBQ Brisket
4 1/2 to 6 1/2 lb. beef brisket
1 bottle of liquid smoke
celery salt
garlic powder
onion powder

Place brisket in a flat baking pan fat side down. Pierce it all over with a fork and pour 1/2 the bottle of liquid smoke over it. Cover it generously with the celery salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Turn the brisket over and repeat the above procedure on this side. Cover the pan with foil and refrigerate over night. Cook fat side up, covered with foil for 5 hours at 275 degrees. Uncover and pour off the liquid then cover generously with your favorite BBQ sauce, cover with foil, and cook another hour. Let stand before slicing.

  1. [...] Well, I got carried away at Costco again and bought a 15 pound bag of potatoes! My kids and grandkids were going to be in town and I knew I was going to make garlic mashed potatoes for one of the meals. I thought I’d give some to my mom and son and that would take care of the 15 pounds . . . WRONG! Even after they took what they wanted I was left with at least five pounds so thought I’d make Potato Gratin to get rid of some more. I still have some left to make Potato Soup . . . but that’s another post. This gratin is great with BBQ brisket and serves 4-6. BTW, this dish is great with the Oven BBQ Brisket!! [...]
