Bacon Wrapped Almond Stuffed Dates

These are a smokey, salty-sweet delightfully decadent appetizer!! Sorry I didn’t get a picture of these all cooked up and ready to eat! I forgot to take a picture before we headed out the door to the party. I did take one part way through the cooking process, though, so you’ll get a good idea what these will look like. These are absolutely delish and very rich. This recipe is adapted from one that was featured on the Today Show on NBC.

Halfway Through Baking

1 T. garam masala (a blend of seasonings from India) OR Chinese 5-spice powder
1 T. butter, melted
36 whole almonds
36 pitted dates
12 slices of bacon, cut crosswise into thirds
1/2 C. brown sugar

1. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray well with Pam.
2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
3. In a small bowl, coat the almonds with the melted butter and sprinkle with the garam masala. Toss until the almonds are coated.
4. Stuff an almond in each date.
5. Wrap each date with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
6. Roll the bacon wrapped dates in brown sugar and place 1-inch apart on the baking sheet.
7. Bake 7 minutes, turn dates over, and bake another 7 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Remove and dab excess grease off with paper towel. Remove toothpick, place on serving plate and enjoy!!
