Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte with Peanut Butter Sauce

Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte with Peanut Butter Sauce

If you are in the mood for decadent, then this dessert is perfect! I took this to the seminary for a fat Tuesday treat before we entered into the season of Lent. As you can see from the picture, I cut it into small pieces because of the decadence factor and because we had another dessert option as well. It does cut into lovely wedge shaped pieces to make a more attractive dessert for a dinner party. For a gluten free option simply make this without the crust.

The peanut butter sauce is absolutely fantastic and incredibly easy to make. Our imaginations went wild thinking of all the ways the peanut butter sauce could be used. Think ice cream topping, dip for bananas, apples, and pretzels, etc. I owe my friend, Barb, for sharing this recipe with me and all of you. I hope she likes my addition of the crust!

Ingredients
16 oz. of good quality semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
2/3 C. unsalted butter
1/2 C. creamy peanut butter
5 large eggs
18 chocolate sandwich cookies
2 T. butter

1. Crush the sandwich cookies into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or food processor.
2. Melt 2 T. butter and mix into the cookie crumbs. Press mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch spring form pan.
3. Melt chocolate and butter and blend together. Add the peanut butter and cool slightly.
4. Lightly beat the eggs in a large bowl.
5. Gradually add the chocolate mixture to the eggs and beat at medium speed for 10 minutes.
6. Spoon the batter over the crust in the spring form pan.
7. Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes. (It may look a little undone in the middle)

Let cool completely. Cover and chill thoroughly before serving. Serve with the peanut butter sauce drizzled over the top.
